and does not replace a consultation.
The consultation is personal and specific to the individual concerned.
All consultations involve taking a thorough medical history and
a physical examination of the relevant area involved.
How does a pinnaplasty help?
- For individuals who have prominent ears that stick out from the side of the head.
- Prominent ears can make the individual feel self-conscious and introverted.
Tell me about the operation?
- Operation takes approximately 1 hour and is usually performed under a general anaesthetic.
- Local anaesthetic is administered at the time for pain relief afterwards.
- A head bandage is applied to protect the ears.
- Discharged home the same day.
- Sutures will be removed at day 10.
- A head band (sweatband) to be worn at night for 1 month afterwards to prevent the ears being pulled forwards.
What are the possible complications?
- Scars - these will be behind the ears so are well hidden.
- Infection - this can happen after the operation and may require antibiotics.
