Brow Lift

The information contained gives a general idea about the operation and does not replace a consultation.
The consultation is personal and specific to the individual concerned.
All consultations involve taking a thorough medical history and a physical examination of the relevant area involved.

How does a brow lift help?

  • As we age so the skin and soft tissues of the face droop.
  • The eyebrows and forehead skin can descend over the eyelids and eyes giving a "tired" and "hooded" appearance.
  • By lifting the eyebrows and forehead skin can help to rejuvenate the upper face producing a more youthful look.

Tell me about the operation?

  • Operation takes 1 to 2 hours.
  • Performed as minimal access surgery using small "scopes".
  • Discharged home either the same or following day.
  • Dissolving stitches will heal on their own.

What are the possible complications?

  • Scars - these will be just behind the hairline.
  • Infection - this can happen but is rare after the operation and may require antibiotics.
  • Bruising - occasionally the forehead can appear bruised after the operation. This will normally settle within 2 weeks.
  • Sensation - a nerve supplying feeling to the scalp can occasionally be bruised leading to a degree of numbness, but this usually recovers.

These are the commonest complications. Other more rare ones would also be discussed at the consultation.

When can I get back to work?

  • A rest period of 2 weeks is usually recommended.

A Brow lift is sometimes performed with other types of facial surgery such as face lift and eyelid reductions to give the whole face a rejuvenated look. A consultation would be tailored to your own requirements.
